When is art private - and at what point does it become a public matter?
In homage to the Dadaist poet Kurt Schwitters, the artist Gunther Schumann, alias Square Boy, is creating an expansive temporary sculpture at Kunsthalle Ost. It will be made from cardboard, wood and other recycled materials.
According to Schwitters, the term Merz stands for a kind of overall world view. For this work, the focus is particularly on the fact that the Merzbau was a quiet, private work of art for Schwitters for a long time. which only came to public attention at a late stage. Schwitters concealed the existence of his installation for a long time.
