It all started when my former roommate referred to me as a “goldfish”. At first I didn't know why, but he obviously saw a certain resemblance between me and this bubbling, shiny golden creature.
The more I thought about it, the clearer it became to me how often we anthropomorphize animals - and, conversely, ascribe animal characteristics to humans. There are cat people and dog people, but also “dirty pigs” or spider monkeys, to name just a few examples.
This ongoing series of images takes a humorous look at the relationship between humans and animals. For me, the focus is on the characteristic attributes - not a naturalistic depiction.
