Blu Hustle creates music that oscillates between the genres of Trip-Hop, Synthpop and EDM.
The lyrics do not intend to convey a coherent narrative. More so the music aims at painting atmospheric, sonic images that reverberate in the imagination of the listeners.
By utilizing electronic music equipment such as synthesizers and digital drum pads and blending them with old-school hip-hop beats a unique aesthetic is being created. The sound can be compared vaguely to urban artists such as Massive Attack, Apparat or Rhi.
All music is recorded and produced by Gunther Schumann.
The music deals with experiences of alienation in modern life and urban spaces. In the future, an audio-visual performance will be realized that fuses video and audio content. The goal is, to create an immersive experience for the audience that transcends the definitions of visual arts and entertainment.
Since this future project is very complex I am currently looking for artistic project partners with the focus on camera, dance/performance and production design. If you feel compelled to work with me on this project please do not hesitate to contact me.
The debut album Changing Tides“ was first published in November 2020 and deals with subjects of emotional intensity in romantic relationships.
The latest album is titled “Rain City“ and will be released in the middle of 2021. It addresses the conflict: individual vs. urban space.
Right now, a music video for "Rain City“ is in production.
When uuuuuuuu Sleep is an animated music video by visual and urban artist Gunther Schumann.
Using the technique of mobile video projection mapping, several locations in Halle (Saale) and Leipzig have been filmed across the course of a year. The idea is to bring attention to so called non-places such as shopping malls, waiting rooms and parking lots that otherwise would be invisible to the eye.
At night, these places become alive. Empty public space turns into ghostly stages. Windows and doorways reveal surreal scenes. Tiny creatures reclaim vacant shops that are now liberated from human needs and wants.
This short film does not intend to convey a closed narrative. Instead, it resembles a loose collage of nightly impressions that hopes to enchant viewers with unfamiliar, but strangely familiar places. The music is by the electronic artist Blu Hustle, who is an alter ego of the animator and director Gunther Schumann.
This film has been funded by: Kunststiftung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt and Klosterbergesche Stiftung.
